offered for sale is this unusual spitoon made circa 1850 by "J. Schmeild. nicolas st. n." the casting for the body is typical of those used during the nineteenth century in england for pint pub mugs, which would be fitted with a handle. this spitoon is made with a removable funnel shaped insert. few of these forms exist today. some experts believe a piece like this could be a stand for a funnel, which would catch drips when placed below a beer tap. other than four small lip splits, the piece is in good condition.
