Pair of Rare Boardman Handled Chalices

I am pleased to offer this pair of scarce Boardman double handled communion chalices. Although unmarked, as all Boardman chalices are, they are firmly attributed. This is a scarce form by the Boardmans and c 1810 - 1830. The chalices are 5 1/4" tall and in excellent to fine condition, clean on the inside and both retaining crisp and vivid tooling marks to the underside. These chalices at one time were from the Paul R. Glazier collection and are published in Connecticut Pewter and Pewterers by John Carl Thomas, pg 141, fig 159 referencing the Glazers. Also see PCCA Bulletin Vol 5, pg 95, June 1966 illustrating this chalice for the first time as a very scarce form. SOLD

Offered is a pewter 9 3/8" deep plate or Communion Plate or Paten, double struck with Thomas D. Boardman's earliest Eagle Mark. J # 37. c 1805 - 1820. These deep plates are considered patens as they are frequently found with Church and Communion pieces. These plates are found with several different Boardman marks over the years of their business but we know from the mark that this is an early manufactured plate. This plate is in exception condition obviously handled with care. It's early and nice. Also being offered separately is an 11" deep dish, same condition and exact same mark. SOLD

This is a Boardman 11 1/8" deep dish with the Thomas D. Boardman Eagle touch, J # 37, double struck. This is his earliest mark. c 1805 - 1820. This dish is in excellent condition and could have been part of a church service, it certainly did not see much domestic use if at all. Other pewterers, namely the Danforths and some others made 11 inch range deep dishes, but they just don't show up every day. Early and nice. This is the same early mark as a 9 3/8" Boardman deep plate being offered separately. SOLD
