Powell Pewter Current Selection


This unmarked pair of chalices with the unusual 'belly band' is an uncommon variant made by William Calder of Providence, RI 1817 - 1856. An identical chalice is pictured in an article in the PCCA Bulletin Vol. 7, 9/79 pg 433, Fig 7. They are in good condition with some oxidation to the interior. The height is 6 1/8". The price is $410.00

This flat rim plate was made in London for export to the United States by Townsend & Compton. Their working dates are 1784 - 1801. This well finished plate boasts rows of hand struck hammer-marks on it's underside and well struck touchmarks. The married couple's initials are handsomely engraved on the front rim. I wonder show they are? This 8 7/8" plates is in very good condition. The price is $100.00

Here is a very nice English export teapot by John Townsend of London 1748 - 1784. It is in very good condition, has a rare hooded spout and stands 5 3/8" tall. The handle is restored. The price is $2850.00

John Townsend 18th c Quart Tankard

This handsome tankard was made by the Quaker preacher/pewterer, John Townsend of London for export to the colonies between the years 1748 and 1801. During this period many more tulip shaped tankards were exported to the colonies than the earlier old fashioned straight sided form. This type by Townsend is less common than his tulip shaped tankards. This impressive piece stands 7 3/4" tall and is in very good original condition. The hallmarks on the side are worn, however, the touchmark inside is quite good. The price is $2750.00
