rare townsend & giffin plate

I am pleased to offer this 8 1/4" flat rim plate made for export by the partnership of Thomas giffin and john townsend of London.  the partnership lasted from 1770 to 1778.  the plate has floral painted decoration.  this treatment is occasionally found on antique pewter plates in America and was probably done during the 2nd half of the nineteenth century.  I have seen four painted plates during my years of collecting.  two of the plates were American made and were English export.
