american sundial

offered for your collection is this 3" cast sundial with '41 degree' gnomen that would serve in latitude of new york and parts of connecticut.  it has cast makers initials 'mr' as well as '41' on the face.  sundials were often made by clockmakers.  it is possible that this circa 1830 sundial was made in brooklyn, new york by clock maker michael ryan.  i found no other examples of 'mr' sundials documented.  it is in good condition with a casting 'check' flaw resembling a crack.
