here is one of two measures, ballster and circa 1800, found recently with an unrecorded excise mark from massachusetts. it is likely american made, quart capacity and stands 8” tall. on the side is stamped “cc” for cumberland county and “cm” for commonwealth of mass. the important mark “cOC” is very small and stamped on the hinge in a rectangle. the marks were placed by commonwealth and county inspectors when the measure tested the accurate capacity. if you want a rare piece of americana, you may consider owning this important measure.
